What is Microsoft Dataverse?

Microsoft Dataverse is a cloud-based relational data store built directly into Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365. It replaces SharePoint lists and Excel spreadsheets with a full-fledged enterprise database with enterprise security.

Dataverse offers standard tables (Account, Contact, Task…) compatible with Dynamics 365 and unlimited custom tables. Each table supports validation rules, calculated fields, alternate keys and relationships. Virtual tables allow working with external data (SQL Server, Azure, SAP) without copying – data stays at the source.

Dataverse is a full relational database with RBAC, row-level security, business rules and auditing. SharePoint is primarily document and list management. Dataverse is suited for complex data models with relationships, logic and security requirements.

Dataverse uses a layered security model: Business Units, role-based access control, row-level security and column-level security. Everything is audited with complete change history.

Yes. Dataverse can be connected via Power Automate, Azure Data Factory, virtual tables or Dataverse API. We support integrations with SAP, Dynamics 365, Oracle, SQL Server and more.

Every Microsoft 365 tenant receives base capacity (10 GB + 2 GB per user). For larger capacity, additional storage is purchased or the Power Apps Per User plan includes 250 MB per user.

Dynamics 365 is built directly on Dataverse – it shares the same tables, security model and API. If you have Dynamics 365, you automatically have Dataverse and your Power Apps can work directly with Dynamics data.
